Much rejoicing as the tariff on steel has been dropped. But do we have any surplus from the one remaining blast furnace to export!
British car exports to the US are still subject to a higher tariff than before Trump's impositions and there is a cap on the number allowed in at the new reduced rate. Exports above the cap will be subject to 25% tariffs and the cap has been breached for most of recent history. It's better than last week but still worse than March.
Morning, all Y'all.
Overcast, light drizzle. Rain needed! we have a nationwide bonfire ban, the place is too dry.

"New "improved" Disqus………
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/bdd17df2b4a34599040b12e019a4319b40017274164faa1ea07d15c1c153fd79.jpg
Indeed. This 'new' Disqus was evidently designed by a blind retard. It is beyond ugly and so unintuitive!
It's designed to be used on a phone but not a laptop.
They are all at it. I have a Thermomix, you should see how they have โimprovedโ the menu recipes on that! And donโt get me started on Microsoft office.
I've never used Microsoft products. My first computer was Apple (back in 1999) and that's all I've used since.
Microsoft has not improved on Word 6, which does what you ask of it, with no interference, analyticals, targeting or smart predictive alteration. Word 97 is a decent alternative that I run on XP.
There are some rogue control keys creeping in with my mac, especially with this wretched Disqus text editor.
There used to be a short film on YouTube featuring Steve Jobs (Apple) and Billy Goats (Microsoft) sitting together and taking questions from an audience.
It emerged that Goats was once a junior employee of Apple and that is where he learnt his skills. Part of the film showed Goats showing Jobs around the Microsoft building where Microsoft's software was being developed.
Jobs, smirking, pointed out to Goats that ALL the computer terminals being used by the developers to make Microsoft software were … Apple computers. Goats coloured up and sheepishly admitted, "Well, they are the best!"
Not long after Steve Jobs died, Billy Goats ensured that video was removed from YouTube.
My mother got herself a Macbook Pro soon after I bought a Sony SZ Vaio, considered one of the best Windows laptops, and running XP (I refused the option to install Vista).
My Sony died on me in 2013, and I then took over my mother’s MBP, which was sitting in a cupboard, running Snow Leopard, which I am typing this on. Again, I refused the upgrades because later versions of MacOS were made to be life the inferior tablet version, and later still tied to the Cloud, which I do not trust. They also dispensed with a decent email app for the much worse IOS system and took away Disk Utility. It has its foibles though, and for file management, I prefer to go into XP and do it from there offline via an old version of Parallels. I also have W7 and Linux Mint as guest OSs. I use W7 when forced into using an updated browser, or when I need up-to-date security patches (there is a workaround for now), but my goodness, it is slow. Linux is the only OS light enough to tackle video editing on my MBP, but is hampered by its lack of legacy compatibility.
Online security is a game played between the authorities, who insist on uninvited and covert backdoors, and the hackers and organised criminals who soon catch on and jump in. These backdoors therefore have to be rotated, but if there is a mole in the official security organisations or their outsourced third parties, then there is effectively no protection at all in any popular system. The hapless public therefore have to rely on it not being worth the bother for criminals to hack into obsolete systems. A souped-up ZX Spectrum might turn out to be the safest, most reliable and fastest on the web. Website designers, however, are determined to shut off that protection whenever they can, especially if they are in the pay of the criminals.
In the old days of Netscape, there was a little banner at the bottom of the screen that told you what was loading up. Web designers do not have the courtesy today of documenting what third party software is being downloaded, what it is therefore, and an option to stop it. If they did, then perhaps the source of money from targeted advertising and analyticals would dry up. I don’t actually mind well-mannered ads – a one-line text link enticing me to open a new tab if interested is adequate; pop-ups, especially if animated with flashy hype, are just irritating and slow everything up.
Possibly I'm tempting fate, but what has changed?

SIR โ Those of us raised reading Beatrix Potter books know full well that the birds are singing: โLittle bita bread and-no-cheese!โ

Which bird's song goes like that, Susan? Certainly not the robin's.
I'm guessing you didn't pay much attention to Beatrix Potter's text as anyone who knows anything about British birds is aware that it is only the male yellowhammer Emberiza citrinella that has a song that resembles the phrase "A little bit of bread with no cheeeeeeeeeeeese!"

Brexit Britain appears powerless to stem the flow of illegal immigration. 9 May 2025.
SIR โ A third of those who voted for Brexit did so because they felt that the legal immigration of largely European citizens was out of control. Yet here we are, five years after leaving the EU, overwhelmed by illegal migrants from elsewhere in the world โ with little or no documentation as to who they are โ and we are unable to stop them because, having left the EU, we canโt obtain important intelligence on the people smugglers (report, May 8).
Gary Spring
Absolute nonsense. They are not powerless or misinformed. They simply have no intention of preventing it. The very opposite in fact.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/2025/05/08/brexit-britain-powerless-to-stem-the-flow-of-migrants/
Before Brexit, the majority (a small one, admittedly) of immigrants were not from EU countries and, letโs be honest, the immigrants who cause most concern are largely from countries where language, religion, culture and tradition are incompatible with ours. It was always within our power to stop that proportion of immigration but our leaders lacked the courage to do it. That courage and leadership is still absent.

I was discussing the political state of Worcestershire County Council with one of the two Independents elected there last week.
There are 27 Reform, 12 Tories, 8 Greens, 6 Liberal Democrats, 2 Labour and 2 Independents. None of the other parties will work with Reform, so a Coalition is impossible.
He tells me that many of the newly-elected Reform councillors were paper candidates who were making up the numbers and neither wanted nor expected to be elected. They have precious little experience in actually running a county council. It is a thankless task anyway – all you get is moaned at by the public, and only 2% of the budget is acually decided by councillors; 98% is compliance with statutory requirements set in Westminster, leaving very little left for local initiatives.
Furthermore, Worcestershire County Council is due to be abolished along with the districts, to be replaced by a Regional Commissioner (aka "Mayor"), appointed by a major party centrally and imposed as a fait accompli following a rubberstamp election. Council Tax will rise substantially, since the Commissioner can be safely scapegoated without any meaningful public accountability, enabling a headline Chancellor to cut Income Tax, getting a pat on the back from those whose lives matter.
You can be sure of one thing – any change they make will not be beneficial.
"they have precious little experience in actually running a county council." – like that 19-year-old that we discussed yesterday. Barely experienced enough to find his hole using both hands and a map.
There are some very talented youngsters about, so probably best to judge on merit.
My Independent friend pointed out that it was a 22-year-old lass who unseated the Conservative Leader of the council, and depriving the Conservatives of any representation in the city. She stood and won for the Greens.
I don’t doubt the talent, but it doesn’t replace the need for experience – such as in actually managing people successfully, managing projects and the like. If you are 22, you have barely even graduated with a BSc, let alone actually done anything useful.
It sounds like you know more about it than me. Can you tell me, for example, do local councils have any say in 'renewable' energy targets?
Flying silly flags and the like is entirely down to them.
Just what do they have a say in, Joseph, apart from the flags of course?
In theory they should. However, in real life any subsidy scheme or investment initiative would overload the Council Tax already extremely heavily burdened by statutory requirements set centrally.
I do not know of any bylaws not covered by the Building Regs, which again is set centrally.
What I really want to know is if they can put a stop to things like solar farms blighting the country or have any say in not supporting illegal migrant accommodation.
"Regional Commissioner" = Gauleiter.
Are you listening Ed? 'Course not.
Reactor BWRX-300 will be the first SMR to become operational in the Western world. The 300-megawatt unit will be located next to the existing Darlington Nuclear Station, operated by Ontario Power Generation. Once completed, it will generate enough electricity to power approximately 300,000 homes.

Call me naรฏve, but can anyone please explain to me why, in 2025, there is not a worldwide sytem of government in which those elected into power are not immediately kicked out of power if they are seen to be demonstrably performing in a manner that is clearly not in the interests of the electorate?
The prime remit of any government is defence of the realm. When was the last time a British government acted positively on this basic tenet?
If you clearly fail the nation you should be immediately suspended โ impeached โ and removed from power. I can think of one clear and present candidate for such action. If you don't do what you were voted in to do then it is time you were discarded, preferably with no pension.
There aren't enough jails in the world.
I think we already have a system but the remit is to do everything possible to harm your nation, or you get thrown out.

Bright but still single figures.
Today's headline is misleading, as far as the vast majority of anti invasion members of the public are concerned, not one of these rubber boats supplied by the French government has ever been turned back. In around twenty years of this occurring not one attempt has been made to stop it. Yesterday would have been the perfect occasion to make a start. Reminding the French government how lucky they were when the troop alliance saved them from what they seem to have now enjoyed for a long time.
Wrecking our country and its culture and social structure.
Between April 2022 and January 2023, 957 boats landed in Dover according to figures supplied by the MoD, who were responsible during that period. What happened to those boats?
I haven't yet found the figures since January 2023 but I'm still looking.
I expect the boats were deflated and shipped back for reuse the same as the life jackets would have been. The whole invasion has been a total conspiracy against the British people by our own useless and pointless government's.
The RNLI under orders have been working alongside the government.
The British taxpayers and general public are now paying the price for this horrendous conspiracy and ongoing act of treason.
No-one knows why, Eddy…as you say, only know the price being paid.
One last (and serious) thought on VE-Day.
I remember the War; I have a clear memory of the 8 May 1945. I am old and haggard. Nonetheless, it came as a great shock to realise that anyone who was serving in 1945- or a civilian who was working or running a home – is now a shade short of 100 years old.
I guess it's the endless trail of war movies that keep it fresh in the non-participants mind, so it doesn't really seem so long ago.
Mother was 10 when it started, Father 13. Father was old enough to do National Service at the end, then moved on to nuclear matters. Neither of them were shot at. Thank God. A distant great-uncle was a gunner in a Sunderland flying boat.
My parents were married on September 2nd 1939 – war declared the next day. My father spent the war inspecting aircraft parts in Coventry.; mother was in the Observer Corps on firewatch.
My father had a private pilot's licence and joined the RAFVR. He applied to be a fighter pilot but was discovered to be colour blind and turned down. He became an Equipment Officer and was away from home most of the war – and later.
It wasn't until February 1949 that we all lived together as a family. My mother had to cope on her own – homeless, two boys aged 10 and – and then me as a baby. Always struggling to find accommodation.
Difficult to imagine these days.
My brother was born 22nd December 1942 – he lived for five days only. She never spoke of him.
Very sad to read, Ndovu. My paternal grandmother had five boys all healthy all in the forces. The only girl she had died from meningitis aged seven. She never spoke of her. I only had girls, she loved them. Shops a mile away, no transport. Grandfather grew all the veg, that was good. A different world.
It was a different world…….. my grandma lived with us for a couple of years after Mum was widowed, but she became a liability when dementia developed and she had hallucinations. God only knows what medication she was was on. She died when I was six. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/f554a5acfdaa652a9e016fc57886ebaa60216e319b0f8e8f166d4fccef9cd135.jpg . She had been admitted to the mental hospital by then.
Photo taken on my 5th birthday.
I had a lot of freedom as a child, as Mum was working full time.
Lovely memento, N…I was kitted out similarly at that age. And similar freedom, for the same reason. Can see you are all related x
What shocked me is it has been 35 years since the Wall came down and 50 years since I was serving in Northern Ireland.
53 years since I was there for the second time. Doesn't time fly!!

A headline in the DT:
Pope Leo XIV to hold Mass in Sistine Chapel.
When I was a Catholic, it was 'say Mass' [a pedant rites].
Does it rhyme with lass or grass? (NB. I am a southerner.)
As in Marss? Oh, no. This southerner rhymes it with lass.
Depends on how posh you are.
Not a Catholic…always thought it was 'celebrate' Mass? (husband's suggestion, he always says I'm more catholic than any Catholic).
The priest leading a mass is certainly referred to as the celebrant where I go to church but then we're also more catholic than the Catholics!
Saying that they're a nuclear-free zone.
That phrase was a joke – many of the 'nuclear free zones' housed companies working for the nuclear industry – I used to visit them. As if the Russian pilots would think 'Best not to drop a bomb there it's nuclear free'
I seem to remember South Yorkshire was a "nuclear-free zone".
Yes – Sheffield was and there was about 20 companies there who had contracts with us

About 2/3 of the way through, the corruption of politics by Big Money:
โโAnd this is, I think, a very important part of the Australian dynamic now, is the renewable energy sector, which has grown very fat, very rich, almost completely on the back of government subsidies and preferential treatment. None of it on the ground profits for actually producing electricity. It's all on the renewable energy certificates and everything else they're given to give them a privileged start.
And this began, it actually began under the John Howard government in the early 2000s, but was sent turbocharged by labour in between 2007 and 2013. And they've grown and grown and grown. They are now very powerful and very rich.
And so rich and so influential, in fact, that they've established their own party. They have their own, essentially what it acts as a party, the Teals, who are funded, and you can follow the funding train here, it's all disclosed. This isn't a conspiracy theory.
They're funded by a group largely called Climate 200, which is run by a bloke called Simon Holmes Accord. And it is entirely dedicated to channeling money, much of which comes from overseas, it's not very transparent, to knock off the idea that we would have nuclear[โฆ]โ

A better question is why are we asking them? Why are we petitioning the government – our servants – to do anything? We should instruct them on what we will tolerate, then they will offer the options to us and we will – if they are, as imagined unacceptable, then we sack those who presented them and make them come back with a better option.

Thanks 'mum. Paid ours when it first came out. Btw have you heard the latest on the McCann case, think some photos or similar found on Brueckner's computer hard drive.
Yes – I did read about that. I think they want to wrap the case up now. How do we know anything is, or what is, true these days. We don’t actually know that Brueckner exists, he seems a very shadowy, vague, insubstantial figure in all of this, like a mirage or a will o’ the wisp. It is such a strange case. I was also reading how the ‘Tapas 7’ seemed more upset than the parents – Gerry was organising and playing in a tennis game two days later and Kate was jogging. Idiotic. Sun goes through a cycle same as everything else in nature. What Labour will do is spend the money and claim the credit when in fact nature would do it for free.
That'll reduce the effectiveness of the solar panels that millipede is covering farmland with.
Brilliant! (or not, actually dull)
From AI: Here's a simulated graph of the Sun's **Total Solar Irradiance (TSI)** from 1978 to 2025, illustrating the typical ~11-year solar cycle. The variation shown is smallโabout ยฑ0.3 W/mยฒโconsistent with real solar data, which changes by roughly 0.1% over each cycle.
Seems we're at the peak, so the govt will claim success… regardless of the pollution caused.

The well-known London secret about the Prime Minister refers to a 2022 meeting between Boris Johnson and a former KGB officer, Alexander Lebedev, which occurred in Italy. This meeting was highly unusual and breached security protocols, as Johnson was traveling alone, without any security detail, and without official Foreign Office personnel.

Who will tell you to go to A& E.
I have been told that because i still smoke there will be no more treatment forthcoming for my vascular conditions.
If and when my feet turn black i will go to A&E to have them amputated. Then sue the practice for negligent care.
You could stop smoking………..
It is an addiction. All that is being offered is talking therapy.
Have you tried it?
Multiple times.
Someone I know was anxious, GP recommended to try tapping therapy. Apparently takes your mind off your thoughts. Perhaps that could turn into an addiction too. I was a smoker one time, the cost would put me off now, let alone the palaver behind locked cupboard doors etc. Meantime, alcohol widely available to all, often on special offer.
Beat me to it, again :-D!
Tell them you stopped?

Brexit Britain is quite capable of dealing with the borders. Itโs the remainiacs in charge who are determined not to.

Yesterday evening I noticed that though plugged in, my phone was losing battery power so it being just before 8 pm, I hoofed it swiftly to the Apple store in Westfield. They established that it wasn't a hardware problem and recommended putting the phone back to factory settings and starting again as new, which was done. Interesting to see what my Apple profile remembers and what is lost. Safari had all my online bookmarks and the NYT found my Wordle stats when I entered my email address but all my phone contacts were gone and of course there were several apps to reinstall. Banking, Outlook, NHS etc. I think I'm all set now and though very slow, it did backup this morning and is showing 100% charged (yes, I know 20-80% is recommended – at least three of the Apple bods told me that last night!). The phone now has a more modern look, which I don't really like but hey ho! A ridiculously distressing experience too. I'm far too dependent on The Machine.

Thank you Sue for the reminder to synchronise my phone on the computer which can then be used as a back up following a rset….

Did previous generations loathe politicians and some diplomats? Every time I see a picture of the likes of Starmer, Reeves, Rayner I am overcome with a feeling which is alien to my normal temperament. Even Blair and May didn't provoke the same reaction. As for seeing Mandelson behind Trump, yeuck!
While Wellington was prime minister, the windows at Apsley House were regularly broken by people who expressed their discontent by throwing rocks. The thing is, Wellington just shrugged it off. (Reference, A Journey Through My Family by Lady Jane Wellesley.) Imagine doing that to Starmer.
The British public, in Wellesley's time, had massively more intelligence, more powerful physiques, and balls!
200 years of eating shit (masquerading as 'food') has physically and mentally enfeebled the nation (as well as castrating it)!

Exactly. Third wave feminists bitch about the lack of attention given in the past by the medical profession to menopausal symptoms. It isn't because doctors used to be mostly white men. It's because only significant numbers of women in the industrial world in the modern era live long enough to experience the menopause.
Though very many women went on having babies until they could no longer conceive. My Victorian ancestors were fairly well to do – for instance – my paternal Gt Grandparents – their parents had 11 and 14 children respectively. Not all of those survived – in both cases the first one died, and several of my Gt Gfather’s siblings died in childhood.
We were in Oslo yesterday and witnessed some of the VE Day commemoration ceremonies. Inside Akershus fortress there is a monument to the first โexecutionsโ after the Germans arrived, when a number of people were shot to make the point that they had to obey and not speak against the new leaders! Hmmmm
It's been pretty much the same since Thatcher got booted out, that was the last time I felt like we had a leader that was really working for our country and not for some global agenda and ideology.
It feels like now under two tier that we are on the verge of genocide against the native population.

Reminds me of the old Jules and Sandy line "Yes, I am standing firm behind you, Jules".
I have never been a Labour supporter, though I could understand the reasons behind it foundation and existence.
I thoroughly despised the Blair regime, but this is the first time I have actively hated a government so much that I would applaud its demise; by fair means or foul.
A note to Anglican NoTTLers. I observed that, at the Abbey yesterday, the JWK gave VERY short shrift to the Midwife. He gets one thumb from me for that!
I've heard the Midwife preach a few times. Mostly forgettable but two sermons stand out as absolute stinkers. One was about her wonderful selfless friend who wore a face mask to protect others. Very tempted to ask if her friend is ugly. The other was about that w-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l book, The Shack. The Shack is only 256 pages long and it's 256 pages of trash fiction completely devoid of merit, either literary or theological. It represents God as a fat black woman.
Ideal ABC candidate, I’d say.
As an enthusiastic amateur cook with no training, whatsoever, in high-end cuisine, butchery or charcuterie; I decided to experiment constantly when I first moved to Sweden, nearly 14 years ago. Although I like and enjoy a lot of Swedish food, there are none of the 'comfort' foods of my past in the UK available anywhere here.
I mastered the art of the Yorkshire pork pie around eight years ago after many attempts to get it right. I now have my reliable recipe. Bacon and sausages took a lot longer since, although delicious, were not quite there. I am ecstatic to have discovered what by now could well be my definitive recipes for both items.
I currently have two pieces of pork (one back, one belly) dry-curing in the fridge using a recipe from the curiously-named chap, Turan T Turan, who runs the excellent Coldsmoking Digital Cookery School on YouTube. I am also in the process of making some sausages to one of his recipes. I have fried and sampled two small patties of the sausage meat and the wonderful flavour took me straight back to a good butcher's shop in the UK. To say I am happy would be an understatement. I shall stuff that sausage meat into pig's casings this afternoon.
One of the benefits of curing bacon, for me, is the fact that I cure it after having removed the rind. I placed the rind from the back bacon in the fridge for two days to dry out. This morning I rubbed it with salt and then placed it into the air-fryer for 20 minutes at 200ยบC. This was the result:

Jenrick showing some gumption in asking for clarification on the law re burning the islamists' book.
Are the PTB allowing mission creep in an attempt to bring blasphemy laws back into play, and why would they do this?
If certain politicians believe that blasphemy laws are required then they should have the strength of character (I know, I know) to state their position and why they believe that to be, not only right, but essential.
It's very likely that the attempt to return blasphemy laws to the statute book will be unpopular, to say the least. Therefore, making tiny steps over time would be the way to go, especially when most of us do not know the law or if laws appear to be in conflict/are not clearly defined.
Perhaps another contentious, for some, ruling from the Supreme Court is required to put this to bed, once and for all.

Blasphemy: the action or offence of speaking sacrilegiously about God or sacred things; profane talk.
What is it called, then, when religious people attempt to 'convert' me to their way of thinking by telling me that I am a 'heathen'?
Is that not also 'blasphemy'? Or are their views โ somehow โ more important than mine?
Indeed, Grizz.
I went to a C of E school, my parents were not particularly religious but well meaning, but I hated the RE lessons and church service every month.
Every month, not every morning? Morning assembly was a service, to all intents. There were hymns, prayers, a lesson and a sermon, followed by notices.
A hymn, a prayer, a homily, plus as you say, notices.
But were a lot tougher back when I went to school.
One day there had been an accident outside the school gates, where a pupil had turned in front of a bus, with the expected result. At Assembly the next morning, prayers were said for the victim and his family, followed by a very severe lecture on road safety. That was the nearest we got to "counseling".
That's more like it. (In Yorkshire) we had low mass every morning at 7:00am said by the Housemaster. On Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation that was followed by 11:00am sung Latin High Mass in the Abbey Church and, on Sundays 6:00pm Benediction.
As you can tell, this has made me very holy indeed. {:^))
'As you can tell, this has made me very holy indeed'
Like Swiss cheese, you mean?
You got off lightly…my father went to the Quaker boarding school. He said that he learned how to sleep whilst sitting for hours on hard wooden benches.

My parents professed to be C of E but they never attended church. When I was around eight I was forced to attend a Methodist (!) Sunday school each week until I was 12. I was then sent to the village C of E church to prepare me for my official indoctrination into religion.
I always resented having my weekends trashed this way but my parents were too aggressive for me to complain without punishment! To me this was a waste of a childhood. Other boys in my school were taken to cricket and football matches by their fathers.
Mine was only interested in spending every weekend at the workingmen’s club with his cretinous workmates, chain-smoking and imbibing copious quantities of nasty keg ‘beer’.
My parents sent me to Sunday school every week – I thought it was because they were religious – now I know otherwise
Mum was C of E and we went to church fairly regularly when I was a child. I went to a C of E primary school and we always sang a hymn, said grace before and after lunch, and had visits to church quite often.
At my all- girls' grammar school we had a C of E assembly every morning, with a hymn etc. Any Catholics were excluded and had their own assembly in a classroom. They also didn't come to scripture lessons. One of my friends I still see regularly is a catholic and still goes to church. I only go these days to funerals.
Islam is a blasphemy.
muslim should be criticised. It's an appalling nonsense followed by violent savages. To single it out is absurd. The more it is mocked, derided, insulted, abused the better.
It will be brought in on the sly by the back door, like chaining us to the EU.

Realistically I suppose now that Londonistan is less than 40% white British weโre absolutely sunk.

Afternoon VW,
At this moment in time we still have weight of numbers on our side “we are sunk” only if we wish to be sunk.
It happened via the polling stations and supporting parties that had a very transparent, clear to see, covert agenda.
Party name before Country, consequences of little or no importance.
Much less than that once the people who work in London leave.
British warship tracks Russian submarine in Channel. 9 Nay 2025.
Luke Pollard, the Minister for the Armed Forces, said: โThe Royal Navy has once again demonstrated its readiness to secure UK waters and protect the public.
โOur sailors acted swiftly and decisively to a potential Russian threat, and I pay tribute to their dedication, courage and professionalism.
A surfaced Russian submarine passes through the Channel on its way home. There must be a cringe factor of about 10 here.

Russian warship in international waters SHOCK.
Yo Minty
What he should have said:
With reference to illegals crossing the Channel by small boats"
I have said
"Sailors must not act swiftly and decisively and prevent a potential foreign threat to UK, however, I pay tribute to their dedication, courage and professionalism of those brave illegal immigraants."
The PM and Cabinet fully support me in this matter
But they couldn't stop the criminal invasion by dindus?
However, there's this drivel:
โNational security is a foundation of the Governmentโs Plan for Change and we are giving our Armed Forces what they need to keep us secure home and strong abroad.โ
Plan for change … security is about maintaining the status quo, you liars. They're just shoving 'change' into everything, especially when it's meaningless. As for secure home and abroad, feck off. You're letting countless foreign savages in every day and doing nothing to reverse that.
Why do the Left lie so continually?
Hope the Russians did their duty and picked up any mariners in distress in small boats in the Channel.
Grid Blackout in Spain
An American solar energy specialist reports that Spain says the recent blackout caused by a a sudden reduction of electrical power amounting to about half the Spanish load of 27GW had nothing to do with the generating plant:

With the cause still not having been established I can only conclude that it was an Act of God.
They still don't know, so statements such as it wasn't this or it wasn't that, unless conclusively proven to be so, are unfounded. The renewables advocates are clutching at straws to claim it could not possibly be renewables that caused the failure.
I’m surprised the Spanish haven’t blamed it on the French Connection.
Or Brexit, Thatcher and Trump.

For every upvote i give you consider it times 100.

They've no intention of stopping them. Only facilitating them.
What annoys me is that when they have decided that the invasion is complete, some lucky politician will be the one to "stop the boats" overnight and we will be expected to applaud. What's the betting it's Farage?
Perhaps, but he is not currently facilitating the process.

I need an 'oliday.
Thank goodness Sonny Boy Snr and I are off to Edinburgh the week after next to spend quality time with granddaughter.
MB and Spartie will probably wreck the joint, but, hey ho.
Have a good bonding session and a holiday.
Looks like a couple of burnt out utes there. Probably had plastic body panels hung on those skinny frames.
Funny, I thought that fire was expected next week.
Excellent day out at Coniston, probably my favourite place in the Lakes.
Brekkers (excellent bacon butty) at the Bluebird Cafe right next to the pier – everything in Coniston is either Bluebird/Campbell or Ransome/Swallows&Amazons – then a steamer cruise to Torver jetty and a walk back along part of the Cumbria Way.
Then into Coniston for a pint at the Black Bull Inn, a 16th century pub with its own brewery on the premises (if you're brave enough) and a comically rude Scottish barman, but, following a worrying trend, they didnt take cash!! A pub that doesnt take cash……
Anybody ever heading up this way it really is worth visiting, stunning scenery (Coniston Old Man, Wetherlam etc) and lots to do!
This is the Cumbria Tourist Board signing off……..
Excellent review! I took my sister and BiL to Culross yesterday. Itโs an ancient burgh on the North side of the Forth, which was the first place in the world to mine coal offshore in 1465! You can still see the top of the shaft at low tide, about 400 yards offshore. The coal was used to fuel salt pans and iron production. The town itself (do Google it – itโs worth a look) it has an ancient palace and a Mercat cross, winding cobbled lanes, hanging gardens, little overhanging houses dated 1607 and the remains of a magnificent Cistercian monastery! All the https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/24bda2312480354a7008b48aecf249361c8c7ddb444010054438b39db52fc078.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/77885adb2746a37d234f74d7ddb8b16707c0703e323f8bdd6ccb82bfbf517af6.jpg houses are ochre coloured with orange pan tile roofs.
The weather was glorious and the trees and flowers were stunning!
All except the white house in the picture?
Probably a rebellious English owner!
You werenโt supposed to notice!๐
Looks more French than Scottish to this sassenach's eye.
Itโs certainly very different! An absolute gem of a place and my sis and husband were jolly impressed, not least with the weather! Coming from Greece they had packed all the wrong clothes!
Genuinely fascinating , thank you Sue .
Thanks Belle! Did you have fun with your sisters? Itโs sad when they go away again isnโt it? Iโve just dropped her and her lovely husband at the station to go to Newcastle to see old school friends!
Wow!
You should have 'necked' the pint before saying, "That's all I've got, Jock!"
Actually mola, when he told me it was card/app only I said to him – 'shame really, as I was going to tip you!' – he actually smiled wryly at me and told me he wouldnt get it (the tip) anyway! I dont like it when places behave like that……
I always tip in cash. Makes the staff smile.
I think the Gods are having their revenge on me for declaring spring well underway and summer coming soon.
Today, it's back to jeans and sweaters as against shorts and tees. Temp is 10C, with grey skies and it is pouring down. Just a couple days back it was 27+/- and sunny.
I feel your pain. We made the mistake of golfing this morning but quit after nine holes on a course that was practically waterlogged after Wednesdays rain.

It's been a bit like that here – still a perishing north-east wind and a fair bit of cloud today, though it's warmer than earlier in the week. April was warmer.

Hot day here ,
Awake early to take younger sister to bus station in Poole .. N/ E to Heathrow .. now boarding flight to Munich to catch her Lufthansa flight back to SA .
Other sister still here , she departs on Sunday for further hol to N Yorks back to see cousins before she flies from Newcastle on route to Cape Town via where , I have forgotten .. and wants me to accompany her in the car to return it and share the drive back to N Yorks .. I felt fine for several days , now the IBS or what ever the thing is that has me doubled with pain is back .. What do I do, I feel terrible , my fast route to an examination is more like a slow route .. what do they mean by that? No news yet .
A few days ago younger sister and I enjoyed a church bell ringing lesson, she was delighted and so was I .. 500 year old bells.. yes .. It is the mastery of bell ringing that is so intense and immense ..
How on on earth do several CWT of bells manage to be installed in a bell tower … how , how how ?
I hate goodbyes. I never say "bye", just "see you later" or "Speak later" or whatever.
Trauma from being 8 years old.
Hope your sister gets off OK, Belle, and your IBS goes over too.

Beautiful pictures, thank you! What is the bottom one, please?
Bye bye UK.
Legal first.. Hamit Coskun charged with 'harassing the religious institution of Islam' after burning Koran.
Every Christian/Hindu/Atheist in the country should complain whenever Muslims make comments that offend them.
That is a bloody disgrace.
Satan and his vindictive, warlike, cult are gradually taking over.
Not Satan, Mohammed and his mobile loo and snack bar.
Everywhere they go they invade, infest and subvert – like cancer. It's time to cut them out. Say no to whatever they might want. Refuse it. Undo all the laws Blair imposed to protect them. Make them miserable, cut off welfare and they'll get the idea and leave.
Instead, the hard Left seem desperate to bring these vermin here and pollute the country.
Charges against man who burnt Koran โincorrectly wordedโ
Suspect no longer accused of harassing โreligious institution of Islamโ after blasphemy offence backlash
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/05/09/cps-admits-charges-against-man-who-burnt-koran-incorrectly/
He's still being prosecuted for what amounts to blasphemy. Bring on the court case – he'll win.
Only if he has a very good lawyer AND the judge isn't a slammer.
I’ll guess that his defence will be paid for by a donor organisation or by something like crowdfunding.
One hopes so – but remember the terrible miscarriage of justice surrounding Mrs Connolly.
Lucy Connolly, like so many of the ‘Southport protesters’, was railroaded into pleading guilty. I doubt that this will happen in this case.
Agreed – but one never knows.
Public order offences are whatever the prosecution wishes them to mean. Causing distress and alarm is something that can be said to have been felt by any individual over any matter and who is to deny that those feelings did not manifest themselves. It's the same words in the Malicious Communications Act, basically if something gives you a fit of the vapours you have grounds to complain against the communicator. We all accept that slammers go nuts if their god is mentioned irreverently, so it will be guilty as charged. Insulting Christianity would not be seen in the same light as Christians just get on with life rather than creating mayhem if distressed.
It’s vital that Hamit Coskun is provided with the best defence possible.
It's also vital that he is not allotted to a biased judge. That will be the hard bit.
Itโs the difference between turn the other cheek and behead the kuffars.
Exactly, laws built for the perpetually offended.
Surely that depends on the judge. HH. Mohamed al Husein might see things differently.

Even with meal planning, hiding things away food just evaporates. If I make a quiche – or, as it's me, a crustless one – it'll be eaten that day, and most of the salad bits with it. And a bag of popadoms or crisps the Warqueen has taken a fancy too.
Yes, it's an expensive quiche as I put ham hock and sausage into it but you'd think a kilo of quiche would do two days, or at least one and a bit but no. I'm trying to eat less but Junior shouldn't, he's whipcord thin and despite the Warqueen's protestations I want her to eat more as well.
Admittedly most is fruit juices – 5, some ice cream tubs on offer, two blobs of milk but still.
STOP EATING. STOP EATING ICE CREAM…..
Well, yes, you've got a good point there.
Ice cream is just sugar and calories in spades…(ooops, sorry about that word).
Yes, that's why it's nice.
Look, matey- do you WANT to lose weight or not
yes but…ice cream?
10000—s of calories = fat fat fat.
Alternative is sorbet..loads of sugar…make your own icecream with whipping cream, frozen….
Never had you down as a calorie counter!
I do not have a freezer* and have vowed not to treat myself to ice cream until the mortgage is paid off.
*sad story – I bought one, put it in the cellar and the cellar promptly flooded.
My beloved makes the best ice cream in the world. I have not bought or eaten any other ice cream for ten years!!
Fruit juices are full of sugar. Have a look on the pack and weigh it out to see the pile contained therein. They normally put the quantity per 100ml not the pack.
Probably loads. But! I tend to get the pressed fruit sort, not the concentrate larks, so the sugar should at least be 'what's in the fruit'.
I thought ham hock was very cheap.

Such folk don't understand: 'climate change' is not about the environment, science, ecology or anything like that.

Whenever I see the TV showing BBC programmes the ubiquitous Fiona Bruce is presenting. It matters not that she is ignorant whether about antiques, politics or the actual histories of our involvement in world wars.
Smug, arrogant, skinny with a too large flat faced head and worst of all being paid millions from the BBC Licence Fee.
I just like the sound of her voice. That trumps just about everything else.

Should I believe Dan Wootton? What if he just wants to be the centre of attention?

It's all the political AHs that should be in the recycling bin. But we're gonna need a much bigger bin.
When you read about how politicians and spads think it's never 'let's cut spending by closing a department or 12', it's 'Which tax rise will that be paid from?'
They're all – on both sides – incapable of thinking of the state as effectively an unnecessary, intrusive waste of time that does vast amounts of utterly destructive and pointless things.
They are an absolute waste of time money space and oxygen.
No it won't. The Left are wedded to it. To many people getting very rich off the back of the green scam to stop it.
The 'people's recycling bin' is where they, and we, are heading.

I'm talking about the grey squirrel of course.

People are being brainwashed by the media over this incident. It was a tree. Another tree will grow. Bad behaviour if they felled someone else's tree, but far worse crimes happen every day and the sentences are ludicrous.
Matt is consistently excellent!!!
Grey squirrels are not native to the UK. That would be about right. Just saying.

Is the yellow one a lizard orchid?
I don't think so. It's one of many similar white/yellow ones in the garden.
We have a lot of lizard orchids. This is one from last year, this season's are only just opening
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/468f1d1e5bcf01070f2df7d11d47d1a04f41036a3cdaef2156ee1d8df093b1dd.jpg
The second photo looks like Exochorda Macrantha 'The Bride'. ๐
You may be correct.
I have zero skills or knowledge. The only thing I've been good at is spotting what might be orchids.
When we arrived here 15+ years ago there were a few, and over the years I've marked out anything that might be an orchid, often being totally mistaken, we've now moved to well over twenty different types and over the entire garden we now have thousands of individual plants: and that is not an exaggeration
We have one quite a lot larger in our small front garden, it’s quite stunning at this time of the year.
Why are you sneaking into other people's gardens and taking pictures, you reprobate!
Nice gardens are "Far-Right".
I would have thought nice gardens are 'Far-Out' AA – but then, I'm a child of the sixties…..
All sorts of things, like growing your own food and being a pacifist, that used to be seen as hippy/leftie are now "far right" apparently.
Whose garden?
Mine
Lovely! I realised it must be when I saw the orchids.
Nice!
A very good question.
I have no doubt one of the residents of this parish will know.
A guy phones up an escort agency and asks them to send a very slim girl, A slim girl of about 8 stone turns up and he sends her back. He tells them to send a slimmer girl, that one was too fat. Eventually a girl of about 6 stone turns up and he sends that one back and asks for an even slimmer one. So this virtual skeleton turns up and he invites her in. She asks what does he wants to do to her. He says take all your clothes off – which she does. "Now what?" she says. He says "I want you to get on all fours on the floor" She gets on all fours. He then goes to the kitchen and brings in this Alsatian andsays "There, that's what you'll look like if you don't eat your Boneo"
Just suited my usual first word. I could have gone wrong on the 4th letter very easily.

Hi DC.
How is your side of the pond?
All good, pal. Warming up nicely for a lovely Spring and Summer. Planning to BBQ some chicken and ribs tonight, and watch the ice hockey with a bucket of gin and tonic. Later, a fire and some music on the outside speakers.
Hopefully you're home for the weekend too!
Yes mate, off out for lunch with the daughter and her other half tomorrow then we might go for a bimble around Watership Down, not far from her gaff.
Oh well it's Friday again, I've been busy again in the garden, had two glasses of very soft red wine with our meal, that's beginning to wear off now. Fed up with the TV. I had a phone call yesterday from the hospital orthopaedic department and they have at last given me a date next month for my long awaited (six years) knee operation. ๐ค๐ค
Good night Nottlers have a lovely weekend. Yawl ๐ด
Wow, that is good news after all this time – both my knees are shot to shit after 30 years of Rugby, but I'm consigned to just live with it.
Best of luck Eddy!

Lovely! Have yourselves a grand time.
Cheers mate, you to.
Hope it goes successfully. Good luck.
How's the little lad, Rusty?
Not so good. His liquid feed is giving him the trots. Goes in and more or less straight out again. It was quite a drive home from hospital which is 70 miles down the road. He is a plucky lad, he insisted on us stopping at the Burger King for some chips.
Oh dear- can they try something else?
Yes they changed to an alternative food but it still has the same effect. Anyway he had a better night last night at home without all the night-time ward buzzers going off etc. What am I saying? He is totally deaf with his cochlears disconnected! Frequent comings and goings for obs of course would have kept him from sleeping soundly. 8 days he was kept there for, and his Mum had very little sleep.
What a worry for her – and the family, including you. My best wishes for the little lad.
Many thanks
Can hardly keep my eyes open – so off to bed now……… Good night all.
His nose will literally be out of joint!
How old is he, have him from a pup?
He's two and a half and I've had him 13 weeks. He's still on a learning curve.
Landed on his paws ๐พLucky you. My dog now 15 years, failing.
But your dog has had a fabulous life; he’s been much loved. You can’t ask for more than that.
Thanks, Conway, for kind words. Yours will have had very similar – much loved in turn. He’s sleeping a lot, seems comfortable, eating and drinking little.
Enjoy him while you can. Don’t let the inevitable end spoil things.
I am doing, thanks x the only thing he will eat today – cooked beef slices, the supermarket stuff. Drinking a lot of water earlier, a couple of times, but mostly sleeping as he is at present. Earlier, he peed blood, not good. Can’t contact vet until Monday but will call first thing. She said she would phone on Friday but didn’t. He’s been constant companion more than 15 years…he hates the other dog with a passion๐
You haven’t fed him beetroot, have you? When I first got Kadi and took him to Norfolk with me, I let him lick the tray of a beetroot salad. Next thing I knew he appeared to be peeing blood! Just what I needed away from home with a new dog! I told myself not to panic, but to keep an eye on him. Next day he was fine and I twigged.
I wish ๐ no I haven’t, he likely wouldn’t eat it anyway, although all my dogs have liked raw carrot. His stomach is gurgling all the time, he’s breathing is quick and shallow, he’s been asleep all day. (I think humans can get the same effect from eating beetroot.)
Yes, definitely! I love beetroot.
Me2…sandwich, lettuce, salad cream…๐
Well, chums, I'm off to bed now. Good Night, sleep well, and see you all tomorrow morning.
Goodnight, Elsie. I had to have a rest in the middle of the afternoon, so I'm still awake now.
