  6. Forget the $100m – this is Farage’s smartest move yet. 6 January 2025.

    Many Americans believe Britain is occupied by Islamic rape gangs protected by socialist bureaucrats, and see Robinson not as a rabble-rouser or charlatan, but a free speech warrior; one who comes with the added frisson of being working-class (to the Silicon Valley rich, Luton appears exotic). They’ve been told this not just by Robinson’s surprisingly powerful North American lobby but, let’s be honest, by British Right-wingers who have profited from presenting their country as ground zero in the collapse of civilisation. Into the ranks of Reform, the natural home of the dissident Right, have thus been drawn online agitators; disaffected, poor whites; and young, intellectual conservatives radicalised by the horrors of Rotherham rape gangs.

    This is supposed to be in support of Farage? The more one reads the more isolated from the people he looks.

    3. There appears to be almost a defiance of reality by the political classes and their supine media. The cover up of Pakistani/Bangladeshi muslim rape gangs over the past half century has been exposed. The court transcripts tore away the veil.

      Tommy Robinson, for all his faults, has been 'reporting' on such evil acts for the past 20 years. He now lingers in solitary confinement, as a protection against attacks from muslim prisoners. All Farage had to do was acknowledge TRs efforts without any need to have him join Reform.

      Farage's comments have allowed Westminster/Whitehall to set their media dogs against the free speech social media platform offered by Elon Musk and attempt to deflect attention away from the horrendous crimes that all the uniparty are neck deep in.

      Apparently, #TwoTierKeir will be making a statement this morning. I wonder if he'll have the time or space to mention his failings as DPP from 2008 to 2013? I doubt it, and fully expect another attack on freedom of speech.

    The "rape gangs" saga continues apace with another revelation attributed to the ex-MP for Telford, Lucy Allan. If factual, it is little wonder that the Labour government doesn't want an Independent Inquiry. And the Tories are up to their neck in the mess.

    As an aside, Farage & Co should lay off Tommy Robinson as he has been pursuing this subject for years and remains a thorn in the Uni-party's side. Reform i.e. Farage/Tice etc. will need all the support available if they are to become a real threat to the Uni-party and change the manner in which we are governed. The problems facing the UK are much, much bigger than Reforms' distaste for Robinson and his supporters.

    The only other candidate, Muhammad Adrees, praised “the Iranian Revolution when the great leader [Ayatollah Khomeini] led the nation to its destiny”

    2. There is a simple answer to that. Remove the Muslim Council of Britain from any influence in public life.
      These are just the tenets of their religion.
      Most Christians would see their first duty as being towards God rather than Britain. This has been solved in the past by maintaining public life roughly based on Christian principles and with active Christian input into the government. It's pretty clear that the majority in Britain, whether they're Christian, Hindu, Sikh, atheist, Jewish or any other mainstream belief do not want active Muslim influence in government though.

In FSB’s view this matter needs to be pressed to the point where those in positions of authority, politicians, police, Directors of Public prosecutions, are themselves prosecuted for gross negligence and dereliction of duty, or even collusion in mass rape.     Yesterday’s piece, ‘It’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy That’ generated a lively debate. Overall, the view was that the majority did not fully agree with Farage’s view of Tommy Robinson but understood why he held them, implying support for Reform’s stance. FSB’s view is that Reform should be supported for now, though not uncritically. I need to think about this for a while, but I’m wondering if this was a manufactured row designed to put clear blue water between Reform and Tommy Robinson, to gain further support for Reform. What do you think?

      People should get the treatment for which they have PAID and are ENTITLED because they have entered into a CONTRACT. Some subsidising of the poor by the rich is desirable in order to keep society reasonably healthy, but in Britain, all relationship between payments and treatment has been so far lost that most people have no clue any more.

    A dull and overcast start to the day, overnight rain has paused but still a fair amount of snow about.

    Wet and windy 4 degs but better than yesterday, they'll be using GBW on the weather forecasts again now.
    Where have all the NHS staff gone ?
    They have become sadly dissatisfied and completely dissalusioned with the increasing and uncontrolled workload in the NHS and moved to the private sector. Who can blame them?
    It seems to be part of the ongoing plan. But of course this has left millions of brits in the lurch and much needed treatment denied.
    How can anyone take out private medical insurance with already diagnosed ailments.
    Now FOAD is the only option available.

  33. OT – we had an interesting experience last evening. Watching the excellent original production of "Brideshead Revisited" on ITVX brought it all back – how accurately it reflects the text in the novel, and the superb performances (especially the small roles).

    The downside was the stream of advertisements. To watch ITVX free one has to accept them – and one cannot fast forward. The MR and I never watch "live" TV and when looking at recordings FF any adverts. Thus we were exposed to the full horror. The ghastly and improbable diversity, of course: but what staggered us both was that we simply did not understand what many of the adverts were FOR.

    Bit of a toss-up now whether to continue with the play…..

    1. Treat yourself to the DVD boxset. I gave up the pleasures of livestream broadcasts a few years ago. Whilst visiting relatives over the Christmas period I have been exposed to the banality of 'reality' TV and adverts. It underlined why I gave up on such nonsense.

        When my late wife had her 'Hospital' bed moved into the lounge on 16th June 2021 I took the TV set out and parked it facing a radiator in a spare bedroom. Since then here has been no television in this house, especially not on iPlayer, which I have deleted from all my internet-connected devices in case any TV Licence Inspector should suggest that I watch ANY TV. It's a complete heap of content-free rubbish.
        EDIT: I wouldn't let a TV Licence Inspector in anyway.

      I guess we had a golden age of TV ads – some of them were really funny or nice to watch – and now it's over.

If what you are suggesting about Taqiyya and it being incorporated within the holy book upon which one swears, is this not an irreconcilable conflict?

      Ah the mythical letter to police. No Government guidance saying this was ever issued. This is an internet myth referring to Home Office circular 17/2008 which provided guidance to police on protection powers under the Children Act, particularly when to intervene when a child is at risk in a family situation.

OK, not sure what anyone will think to this…I cancelled my Reform membership today due to Farage apparent non-support for Robinson – who I do support – I was a white working class girl, could have been me or my mates, we used to hang out at night…go to the youth club for a while then onto the chip shop, often missed the last bus, walk home in the dark or cadge a lift. So there were are, bit of a depressing start to the day…onward n upward….

    2. Many times I walked home in the dark but if I had a young daughter now I wouldn't let her do that. There were two occasions when I was a teenager that I came close to trouble. At 13 I was engaged in conversation by a man at least in his forties. He wrote a letter, which my mum intercepted and replied to. That saw him off.
      At 16 (almost 17) I was accosted at a bus stop, the guy insisted on paying the fare, he kept me talking until it got dark (July) and then made his move. I was lucky to escape intact. It was a very frightening sexual assault.

      1. When my mother was 17 she stayed in London with her sister and thought nothing of walking home alone late at night having visited her friends who lived a couple of miles away.

        1. The last but one time I was in London, I was staying with a friend in Canada Water. We had a meal and as we paid the bill, I was distracted and it can only have been there that my bank card was copied or cloned and resulted in some fraudulent transactions a few weeks later. Fortunately Barclays fraud team were onto that before I was – and they were very efficient in cancelling the card, issuing a new one and refunding the fraudulent debits.

      2. Things in Paris and in France in general were considerably worse than in England, when I was of an age to be molested by men in the street. But one of my most alarming experiences originated in England.

        When I was in my early 20s I was stuck on a delayed train on my way to Portsmouth and thence to Le Havre, where I was working at the time. As one does on these occasions, I struck up a conversation with two naval officers seated opposite me. No problem there, just friendly chit-chat. Several weeks later, I was astonished to receive a letter at work, addressed to me personally, from one of these naval officers, suggesting a cosy weekend away at his cottage near Portsmouth. It freaked me out, because he told me that my university (who had seconded me to the university in Le Havre) had given him my name and address and I was worried that he would turn up one day in person. Fortunately, he didn't – but I was really worried that I had a potential stalker on my heels. I had a word with the secretaries at the university who were most concerned and apologetic. I doubt very much if this could happen to a young woman today, fortunately.

        My experiences in France were wide-ranging: a flasher seated opposite me in a crowded train; a hulk of a black man who followed me for miles and was eventually seen off by an irate little Frenchman running a newspaper kiosk where I sought refuge; a gang of white boys who wouldn't let me off a train in the métro in the evening; a man at a bus stop near the Arc de Triomphe after dark, who offered me money in exchange for sex and then followed me onto the bus; a resident in a long-term residential hotel (where they had student digs on the top floor, where I was living at the time) who cornered me and tried to rape me. I got out of all of these safely but the story could easily have been very different. Oddly enough, I never felt safer than in Pigalle, the red-light district in Paris, where I was so obviously not a prostitute that I was left alone!

Windows were open (it was summer) then as we went through the tunnels between Swindon and Stroud I was hit by a blast which damaged my ear drum permanently.     I can’t say that I liked school much. I went to three: a nasty local state school in small-town Massachusetts run by teachers who seemed to be there solely to vent their hatred of children; an experimental independent day school in another small town nearby, whose relative cheapness was made up for by the ropiness of its curriculum, and finally, on a sizeable violin scholarship, to a famous mixed, co-ed independent school – Bedales – in Hampshire. I didn’t really care which type of school I was in, as I always found it both inherently tiresome and socially stressful.

    I did, however, find two out of my 11 years of schooling academically enriching and worthwhile, even if they were lacking in other ways. These were the final two, where I did A levels in economics, French and English (I know, a slightly strange trio).

    The teaching was erratic but the exam board (Cambridge) was solid back then and I found, absent being cool and into binge drinking, that revising like the devil for the exams meant grappling with Milton’s verse rhythms, Hamlet’s core themes, concepts like marginal utility and opportunity cost, and the nuances of Cyrano de Bergerac… in French.

    None of that would have been possible under reforms like the ones now being pushed through under grim Labour’s even grimmer Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson, an Oxford graduate from Tyne and Wear, the beneficiary of just the sorts of approaches, schemes and funding she now wants to axe. She launched an independent review of the school curriculum soon after Labour’s July victory, and has apparently now come to the conclusion that it needs a major overhaul.

    The curriculum, she reminded us last week, will be getting a “refresh” because it is “outdated” thanks to the “issues and diversities of our society”. She therefore intends to “breathe new life” into the national syllabus. That’s Shakespeare told.

    The monochrome pursuit of cultural right-think has already led Labour to axe funding for Latin teaching in state schools via the Latin Excellence Programme. This fits nicely with the party’s zest for sabotage and hypocrisy by ensuring that Latin – the tongue in which much Western civilisation was laid down, and a root language that makes the study of romance languages much more accessible – is only available to the richest. For those are now the only people who, following the VAT hike on independent schools, can afford private education.

    As has been widely noted, Phillipson is hardly an outlier, however grotesque her vandalism of received epistemology. The teaching unions are all over this agenda, suffused – as performative Leftists tend to be, by the most arcane woke convictions, demanding that English literature should be less “traditional” and “more diverse”. One union insists schools should “embed anti-racist and decolonised approaches” in the curriculum, while another sounded the alarm that currently “ethnicity and sexual orientation are under-represented”. Unions have said that pushing high standards in English and maths has discouraged attendance.

    Phillipson is keen to do away with the whole notion of subjects as we know them, as these are certainly too regressive. She is simply done – over it – with the likes of history and literature, at least as we know them, full of the richness laid down by our most brilliant ancestors.

    They are to be replaced in their former glory and lifelong guides by a full load of the woke DEI rubbish that has already destroyed university curricula.

    Even most eerily, and in keeping with some of the worst American campus excesses, she wants science mauled too by way of being “de-Westernised”. Truly depressingly, the “evidence” drawn on by the Government for doing this came from bodies that should be championing the teaching of science, not trying to destroy it. And yet the Royal Society of Biology, Royal Society of Chemistry, and Institute of Physics all said that pupils should learn why some cultures were “less able to claim credit and ownership for ideas”. They say that “heroes” should be done away with.

    Presumably that includes the likes of Marie Curie, who discovered radium and polonium, and Rosalind Franklin, who was key in the discovery of DNA.

    The race to the bottom in education, this rampaging through the likes of merit, standards, talent, interest and standards may mask itself in words like “refresh” and “update”. But the reality is that the hills children who are interested in learning real things must now climb have just multiplied. The whole system is working against curiosity by making it dangerous – and extremely expensive – to indulge, to the detriment of our entire society.

    In a state school, the desire to learn, say, more about Isaac Newton or Jane Austen will carry the handicap of political incorrectness, and the would-be Austenite will no doubt be faced with a barrage of attempts to redirect her to something more pro-trans and anti-racist.

    The groupthink language used in describing this overhaul is useful for one thing: as a warning of the sorts of muddy, menacing burble recipients of Labour’s educational agenda will be taught to use. This is the most incompetent Government in history, but with shake-ups like this, it becomes possibly the most damaging ever. A generation’s chance to think, inquire and debate has already been stoppered by the hideous climate at universities and in woke workplaces.

    A good friend of mine that I play football with is a moderate Muslim, but he is always Muslim first and then British second. The scary thing though, is that he and his fellows who are all second or third generation, believe in the prophesy of the 'Ummah' – the global Islamic caliphate.

    He genuinely believes that being part of that will be good for US and that in time we will adapt and learn to accept it. He has not said what might happen should we refuse to convert or how we might be 'encouraged'.

    He is a good person – but it just highlights that they do not think as we do. They think we are daft and misguided for not being Muslim and that it is in our own interests to join them.

    This is something I find altogether more frightening than the activities of so called 'extremists'.

But the latter did not focus on the rape gangs, and the local reports could only go so far. We still do not know, for example, the truth about allegations of police collusion, social workers facilitating abuse, and senior councillors cutting deals outside the criminal justice system.

    No Public Inquiry in the UK is going to work. I’ve seen dozens and I can’t recall one that wasn’t fixed in some way. Anyone doubting this has only to look at the present Dawn Sturgess sitting which is a parody of independent analysis. The truth is that the State, its servants and institutions are now so corrupt that they are beyond salvation.

    He clearly states that the CPS did not prosecute the rapists because the child victims were, in the eyes of the CPS, unreliable witnesses, due to drugs and alcohol.

      I have just witnessed the worst, most self-harming speech by a prime minister since Chamberlain called Hitler a peacenik. The location: Epsom hospital in Surrey. The subject: the NHS, though with Elon Musk and the rape gang scandal rolling in the background, no one cared about that.

      The formal part of Keir Starmer's presentation, delivered with rolled-up sleeves like he was about to give Wes Streeting a bed bath, was written by the cast of W1A. Labour will "catapult the service into the future" and "improve care from where it is now to beyond belief" (I'll believe that when I see it). He'd do better to read this guff as it is on the page – as Rachel Reeves does with her finger – but efforts to make it sound improvised (twinkle in the eye, chef's hand, "ya know…") only add to the sense that every line is a lie.

      "I wouldn't be standing here before you today if it wasn't for the NHS," he added. So now we know who to blame.

      But media questions inevitably turned to Musk's comments on Rotherham, which have been vile and inflammatory – Jess Phillips is a "witch" and a "rape genocide apologist" – yet probably reflect raw feelings on a horrific subject. Be honest: much of the public overlooked Rotherham. It's only been in the last few days that they've read court transcripts and realised the depravity of a story that makes one want to cover Britain in petrol and light a match. The notion that the Government won't green-light a national inquiry is bizarre.

      So this was the PM's chance to show he gets it. Bang the podium. Shed a few tears. But instead of getting compellingly angry about the groomers, the PM reserved his harshest words for – wait for it – Tory MPs who he feels have failed to denounce Elon or defend Jess ("proud to call a colleague and a friend".) "The reason why I've emphasised this today" is because once we abandon the "truth", all else goes: if MPs won't "stand up and denounce what's being said about Jess Phillips then you need to seriously think about why you're in politics".

      My jaw hit the floor and bounced down a rabbit hole. It sounded as if the great issue of the day is not the sexual abuse of young girls but the honour of Jess Phillips – an assessment that only Ms Phillips would agree with, as she thinks literally everything, from the changing of the seasons to the tides of the sea, is about her. She is, as the PM implied, the most compassionate, courageous and modest woman in public life – as her celebrated books I'm Jess Phillips, Jess Phillips is Me and What it's Like to be Jess Phillips will tell you.

      Abuse of politicians is wrong. Elon is an idiot space marine. But come on: did the PM not have the wit to see that what's needed is a national moment of recognition for girls who hitherto were ignored by police and social services? A brief pause in Westminster's introspection to acknowledge that the state massively screwed up on everyone's watch?

      Instead, it's hard not to conclude that he is more wound up about the abuse MPs receive than the issue they are being abused over. He dismissed the need for another inquiry and insisted "it's time to get on with" the last one's findings – as if some grey, out-of-touch bureaucrat ran the Government, not him. Given the scale of error on his brief watch, it's amazing to remember that Boris Johnson resigned over a piece of cake.

      The TV viewer noticed that the health workers vigorously applauded his remarks on the NHS – for they were clapping themselves – yet remained silent during his defence of his record on paedophilia. And this, my friends – this was his reset speech.

Expensive but worth it (tastes infinitely better, too)

    The split between Elon Musk and Nigel Farage is inevitable and welcome. It erupts at a turning point for Reform, when it stands on the cusp of becoming a serious party of opposition, and so must make a choice: is it a coherent conservative party or the party of white resentment? The latter will thrill a few bots online, but it'll never win a parliamentary majority and wouldn't deserve to. Nigel needs to take a stand against the nativists.

    When I interviewed him a little over a week ago, he called Elon a "bloody hero" – and you can see why. He's a brilliant businessman. His purchase of Twitter has been a win for free speech. But the entrepreneur is used to being able to say literally whatever he wants without consequence, while Nigel has been trying to persuade his way into Parliament since 1994. Musk is unsuited to the statesmanship required of machine politics; Donald Trump giving him a department to run is a mad gamble. Over Christmas, he came out in favour of greater skilled migration, forcing many to ask why he had signed up to Team Trump at all.

    The answer is a confluence of interests between capitalism and populism. Musk is a futurist who believes society has to be engineered to maximise his returns, from cutting regulation to boosting baby numbers to supporting the right kind of immigration, which means weeding out anti-Western cultures. British conservatives might agree with aspects of that programme in isolation. There are subtle differences in spirit that can be summed up in two pseudonymous words: Tommy Robinson. Elon tweeting that Reform needs a new leader – as "Farage doesn't have what it takes" – clearly refers to Nigel's feelings about this ghastly individual.

    Many Americans believe Britain is occupied by Islamic rape gangs protected by socialist bureaucrats, and see Robinson not as a rabble-rouser or charlatan, but a free speech warrior; one who comes with the added frisson of being working-class (to the Silicon Valley rich, Luton appears exotic). They've been told this not just by Robinson's surprisingly powerful North American lobby but, let's be honest, by British Right-wingers who have profited from presenting their country as ground zero in the collapse of civilisation. Into the ranks of Reform, the natural home of the dissident Right, have thus been drawn online agitators; disaffected, poor whites; and young, intellectual conservatives radicalised by the horrors of Rotherham rape gangs.

    People who like Farage tend to like Robinson. The irony is that Farage does not. He says he walked away from Ukip in 2018 over its obsession with Islam and Robinson, making it clear in the years since that Robinson would not be not welcome in Reform.

    Farage is, at heart, an old-fashioned Thatcherite, arguably a classical liberal, who wants to reform Britain in order to preserve its benign character – to reduce immigration to alleviate the conditions under which racism might flourish. He has purged his candidate list of extremists. He appointed a Muslim as Reform's CEO. I've no doubt the mini-Musks have been pushing Farage to embrace Robinson, and he has ardently refused – risking Musk's much-hyped donation, perhaps, but with an eye on the broader, domestic coalition Reform has to build.

    Consider the crude mathematics: for every far-Right vote Reform courts, it loses 10,000 moderates. Goodbye constituencies such as Guildford or Peterborough. But an alignment between Robinson and Reform would also be morally unconscionable.

    Conservatives believe order is the basis of liberty: Robinson is a jailbird. Conservatives have no argument with true Islam, which venerates tradition, community and charity. Few would seek to curtail religious expression. They wouldn't wish to treat one British citizen any differently from another, seeing nation as family – and an exclusive relationship at that. It is intriguing that Reform has sought Musk's money for its own purposes yet wishes to end foreign ownership of utilities, endorsing the nationalisation of water as it follows the logic of populism towards the common good.

    Whatever Musk says about wasteful government spending, his companies have flourished thanks to state investment, while he's argued for technological acceleration in the private sphere that would destroy blue-collar employment. Quite what Elon wants to preserve about Western civilisation, I've no idea – given that his ultimate goal appears to be to abandon Earth for Alpha Centauri – and I'm sceptical, too, about the "cultural Christianity" he espouses. Like so many of its converts, he doesn't seem to drive old ladies to church or ally himself to the teachings of Christ that put the last first and vice-versa.

    He has every right to comment on our politics, much as Keir Starmer took the knee over America's, but his language promotes upheaval here, possibly violence. This is the antithesis of conservatism, which aims to conciliate and unite.

    Trump will in time also fall out with Musk, probably over protectionism. Trump, who wants to save US jobs, loves tariffs; Elon prefers to cut them. In the past, Elon donated to the Democrats; it is context and self-interest that aligns him with the Republicans today.   151. Evening, all. Very late on parade because I went to the Epiphany service (and had a steep learning curve serving on my own at the High Altar!) and lingered over mulled wine and Christmas cake afterwards. Then, getting home was a bit slow because the roads were flooded.

    There aren't enough GPs because a) we aren't training and retaining enough and b) there are too many people who've never paid a penny into the system getting priority treatment.

  154. Very pleased to read this, Eddy. Yes, it is exhausting…her mum stayed with her and slept on the floor at the side of the bed. There were other children on the ward, some very ill and died, not a good place to be in to know that. It has never returned, and sincerely hope the same in this little chap’s case x
