    The Sunday presidential decree announcing the dismissal of the two officials cited hundreds of criminal proceedings over alleged treason and collaboration by people within their departments and other law enforcement agencies.

    There is no “infiltration”; the truth is that a large minority of the population are pro-Russian! These are of course side-lined and kept out of the public eye by the MSM. Aside from these latest indicators the arrest of the opposition leader and the abolition of all the political parties outside Zelensky’s non-aligned crypto fascist position is witness to this simple fact.

    At 05:30 it was lovely and cool here near Canterbury. As I predicted in a post a few days ago, to reduce my biggest electricity use I have switched to running the washing machine after 00:15 and hanging the laundry out on the line instead of tumble-drying it. I had forgotten how long it takes to hang out 36 pieces of washing. Came back in to take a drink and was surprised to find that Geoff had already posted NTTL blog. BBC moaning on about how blisteringly hot it’s going to be and that the elderly should be VERY careful and monitored. We didn’t get to be elderly without being careful, closing curtains, etc, dagnabbit (© Bill Thomas).

I am singing it for you now before the heat gets to me (it was actually really hot here in Kent yesterday – no idea of fhe temperature but trying to paint in the caravan didn’t end well, and I flopped on a rug outside and was basically a leopard the entire day); wishing you a wonderful day!

  12. Lia Thomas and the threat to women’s sports. Spiked 19 July 2022.

    Thomas is the transgender athlete who infamously smashed multiple records at the NCAA Ivy League women’s swimming championships back in February. Thomas won events including the 100-yard, 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle races and was part of a winning 400-yard relay team.

    In other words, the NCAA is apparently seeking to ‘honour the impact of women on intercollegiate sports’ by allowing a biological male to be nominated for its Woman of the Year award. If you are baffled by this decision, you are not alone.

    There is of course some considerable irony in that Feminism; the movement that set Political Correctness on the road to destroying Western Civilisation, will be the first to succumb to its poisonous ideology. The rest, Diversity, Equal Rights etc. will inevitably follow as this Doctrinal Cancer kills everything that it comes into contact with. It’s insatiable lust for “reform” will see the destruction of the West. Only those powerful enough to resist, Islam, China and possibly Russia will survive its onslaught.

      I can only assume this is because we are bored, lazy and fat. A generation that has never known want, never faced uncertainty, never lacked for anything, that has anything it wants a click away has, naturally sought diversion.

      In rational times a boy saying ‘I’m a girl’ would be told, no, you’re not. and get on with it. A man wearing a dress would be looked at oddly, as a figure of comedy (which they are), not spoiled. Our very success has made us decadent and foolish. We’ve had men in dresses exposing themselves to children. We’ve had men getting into women’s refuges and raping women. We’ve had men in women’s prisons raping women. A man boasted of hurting women in a fighting tournament. What will it take for the stupidity to end and reason to step in and say ‘you’re not a woman, you’re ill.’ and start treating them appropriately?

      Murders, I assume -but then, rape hasn’t stopped the dementia.

  18. SIR – At 6.17pm on Sunday, I received a text from my son’s school informing me that it would close at noon in the impending heatwave. This meant that my son would have to leave a building that might (or might not) have air conditioning and go back to a house that certainly does not.

    My wife and I work full-time. We have no permission to stop working. What were we supposed to do?

  21. SIR – Yesterday morning, the BBC Breakfast presenter Jon Kay was dispatched to Cambridge to warn us about the apocalyptic conditions we were to face.

    Watching the programme at home, we were enjoying our cuppa in a pleasant 23C, with light cloud. Since then the dog has been walked and two loads of washing put on the line. The bed linen has been changed and we’re about to have our coffee in the garden.

    The Met Office is 10 minutes’ drive from our house. Why on earth does it feel it is necessary to warn the entire country to take precautions against a threat that really isn’t that grave?

IF the process goes smoothly it will still take us into the autumn.
            At the moment, we are living in a strange limbo where we are at the mercy of others. I spent most of yesterday composing professional standard emails to create a paper trail and keep everyone in the loop.
            It’s a relief to return to NOTTL and rite normal. !**@@@!!??////*&&&& etc …..

            We were going to downsize a few years ago when R’s mother was moved into a n/home in Swanage .. then time moved on and many headaches later we still haven’t disposed of a spare bedroom and 2 lofts worth of stuff we have no idea what to do with . Stairs could become a problem .. infact are a problem sometimes with my rt hip and left knee..

            There are many things we never ever imagined decrepititude would present .

    Crazed man with rifle started shooting at folk, and a 22-year-old with legal concealed carry permit stopped him by shooting him dead.

    What makes someone deliberately take a gun to a mall and shoot random people? Thank goodness there was a man with a pistol that stopped it pretty quickly. Private action – better than the police in the recent school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, where they just stood around waiting whilst the gunman shot the children.

    Rishi Sunak does not understand basic economics. He distributed printed money without receiving production in return. He increased benefits and generally disincentivised people from working. This led to a shortage of labour and five million people of working age on benefits. There was widespread fraud, benefit cheating and payments to government cronies with links to China.

    Labour and supply shortages meeting printed money created inflation. Energy shortages were caused by reductions in domestic oil and gas production and the use of intermittent, expensive renewables. The higher price of energy and the price cap becomes a poll tax. As the price cap can only change every six months higher prices will be locked in all winter.

    Sunak caused the inflation which he now says must be the priority of his hoped for government. But if he didn’t understand how it was caused he will not be able to solve it. Putting up interest rates will only solve inflation by reducing demand which means a recession.

    Action is needed to reduce the price of energy, cut employment taxes and reduce benefits to encourage work. Unnecessary government expenditure must be cut starting with HS2 and the Foreign Aid budget.

    Most of all we need to start fracking, take off the windfall tax on domestic oil and gas production and open up coal mines.

    It is not hard to do. All we need is a Chancellor who understands basic economics.

Should he become PM and he ignores what he has been saying during the election process we will know that we, the people, will be in for a tough time. The up-side is that the Tory party will implode, maybe before the next election. Tory MPs will have a really tough job trying to convince people that following the route taken by Biden, Rutte etc. to reduce/destroy food and energy production is really worth the social and financial costs.
      The same goes for all those aspiring to be PM, including those with no known affiliation to the WEF.

Places at the best educational institutions, followed by immediate employment in science, education, finance and politics. Who would refuse? Just as long as you follow the policies that they will give you. Which the chosen people will do willingly because they have been educated to be true believers. The WEF people take a long view, almost Chinese in their approach. Pick people in their late teens and twenty or thirty years later you have a happy and willing puppet running a country the way you tell them to.
          All of our politicians are Manchurian candidates.

          1. We had a young couple staying in the cottage and it was abundantly clear from speaking with the man that it works as you describe.

            His rise through and across NGOs, from the age of 16/17, was meteoric. He had clearly been “spotted” and seemed to have powerful/influential supporters somewhere in the background and is being groomed as a young leader.

    4. No, we need a treasury that understands basic economics. However, this is a confusion, as the treasury doesn’t actually care about the economy. It’s interest is in hiking taxes – not because it needs the money, but because it wants the money. It continues to believe that the more tax it takes, the more it raises. This has been proved false countless times in the past but still they persist, seeking to get that single extra drop – because, of course, the money going out increasing isn’t their problem.

    Our garbos were out early, couldn’t help but hear them with all the windows open.
    After a chat about the changing culture of our country with some of our family yesterday. I’ve been trying to imagine just exactly where in the region of 100 thousand plus illegal migrants are being accomodated. And what it is really costing the hard working UK tax payer’s. And what the future holds for our grandchildren.
    Perhaps some brightspark TV presenter or reporter might take the opportunity to ask the prospective candidates for the role of PM.
    There are a lot of British people who deserve an explanation as to exactly what is happening.

    1. There’s endless waffle about how awful it is that the population’s declining but then you look at why. The blacks and browns don’t pay in, but they take incredible amounts out. The state is encouraging the dross to breed while forcing the worker to pay for it.

      Eventually there will be no one paying for it and the country will be a third world toilet.

      1. Agreed and at least one of our diversity groups never stop moaning.
        Our own indigenous population is in decline because our younger generation can’t afford to have children. But of course they are expected to provide income and home comforts through taxes to support the lazy.

    1. Gas plants are incredibly efficient. Solar however is absurd in this country. It was obvious we needed more power plants. We should be doubling our energy capacity. If greens don’t like it, feed them into the reactors.

      So many simple things need doing:

      More power plants
      The immediate deportation and permanent exclusion of all criminal gimmigrants
      An absolute end to welfare
      An end to the HRA, climate change act, and equalities act.

      That’s a tiny fraction of what needs doing, but the first and most necessary.

      1. ‘Morning Wibb. Not all gas plants are efficient – today we are having to run Open Circuit Gas Turbines and they are anything but. As I type, our 11,000+ bird choppers are contributing just 14%. Even coal is in use this morning. Twelve years of Tory rule have failed to provide a reliable and affordable energy supply, such a vital requirement and probably the main route to prosperity. In fact, the position has worsened under these clowns. And it is no good someone popping up and telling us that ‘the other lot’ would have been even worse! The Tories have a lot to answer for.

        1. Labour would have kept open the coal mines and built power stations just to use the coal to keep miners in work.
          As result of that barmy approach we would still have cheap electricity for homes and industry and energy security. (and for electric cars)

          1. I’ve just ordered my winter fuel (anthracite and house coal). It’s gone up quite a lot, of course. Worse, when I was checking the telephone number in the Yellow Pages, none of the new editions has ANY coal merchants listed at all! They have been cancelled 🙁

        1. Solar might make a useful contribution to an individual property but as part of a national system it’s useless.

        2. In the crazed world of government thinking and taxation, we would have to pay “Electricity tax” on home-generated solar power for ue at home, if we had an array – even though the sun is free! State gotta get more than its pound of flesh, doncha no.

          1. Surely you wouldn’t have to pay tax on that which you generated but exported to the grid.
            I get paid for every unit I generate whether it’s exported to the grid or I use it myself. I’m also deemed to have exported a percentage for which I get paid extra . However before any is exported it is routed (quite legally) through my immersion heater so I’m getting paid to heat my water and save oil in the process.

          2. If we generate it, we pay tax, exported or used at home.
            I guess the logic is that, by not using grid power, we are depriving the government of their tax and VAT, so we have to pay it anyway. Or some such bollox.

          3. You ought to get a rebate for what you export to the grid to be used by someone else – seems a ridiculous system and one which would deter me from having the panels

  30. I was woken by the smell of smoke.
    It is caused by the wildfires which are nearly 80 miles from us as the wind blows.
    Unpleasant and initially very worrying.

    1. Some years back, East Anglia was treated to an all pervading pong that appeared to be town gas crossed with sloppy dog turd.
      Apparently it was an easterly wind wafting across as the Cloggies spread slurry over their land.

  57. I sat outside yesterday evening and when I closed my eyes it felt like I was in Roquebrune, near Frejus, where many a happy childhood holiday was spent.
    I was planning to take my mother there on hols last year – a trip down memory lane – but her cancer came back and she needed treatments. Then we planned for this year but her passport had expired. She applied for a new one in May but hasn’t had it yet.

    Maybe next year if she’s well enough, DV.

The National Trust run a superb second hand bookshop there. I picked up ‘Seven Pillars of Wisdom’ by T E Lawrence and in this heat felt as if I was on the camel next door. Interestingly his prose is peppered with reference to the slaves owned by the arabs. I doubt the Houser of Saud will do any apologising any time soon….

  108. The Tories are in a far more terrible crisis than anyone is ready to admit

    Divided, broken and out of ideas, the party already seems to be wandering in the political wilderness

    This is a dangerous moment for the Conservative Party. It does not look like the party of government, but rather like a divided and tortured opposition. The leadership contest is bedevilled by voodoo economics and blighted by ideological rifts. Contestants are scrapping in a fashion that makes Labour look almost statesmanlike. In a party bereft of a guiding philosophy, the ghosts of Blair and Thatcher loom large.

    Put simply, there is a great danger that the whole affair will come across to the public as mad, bad and nostalgic. The received wisdom in Westminster is that, unless the Tories get their act together, they face years in the wilderness. But the party already seems to be roaming – delusional and self-flagellating – in its thickets.

    The fact that Penny Mordaunt has even made it this far is testament to just how lost in the jungle the Conservative Party is. Very much a creature of the liberal-Left, she has not been open about her support for transgender ideology, and has proffered pork barrel politics in response to the cost-of-living crisis.

    Ms Mordaunt clearly perceives herself within the Blairite tradition. This is reflected in her much-discussed book, which reads like a metropolitan liberal’s anthropological guide to the curious conservative tribe. She describes Britons as “suspicious of change” and bemoans the fact that the UK has never had a “clearly identified mission to modernise”. She hankers after a utopia more dispiriting than New Labour’s wasteland of surveillance cameras and call centres – a world where the hospital is the “centre of society”, the monarchy is an “asset” to be modernised, and there is zero tolerance towards “micro-aggressions”.

    The fact that so many MPs have swung behind Ms Mordaunt is revealing. We can see more plainly than ever just how many Conservative MPs remain enchanted by the New Labour legacy. Despite Brexit and the North’s revolt against Labour, they still seem to think that they can win an election based on the 1997 playbook.

    But perhaps it is Rishi Sunak who most powerfully embodies the failures of the status quo. He is the embodiment of Treasury orthodoxy. As chancellor, he was captive to Third Way economics, and seems to believe – mistakenly – that the money supply has nothing to do with inflation. True, he is paying lip service to Thatcherite ideas, such as not spending beyond your means. But his frugality does not seem to be accompanied with an actual plan for growth. One can’t help but wonder whether his strategy is to hoard the extra tax revenues the Government is raking in for a pre-election Red Wall splurge.

    Moreover, for all his slickness, Mr Sunak has somehow found himself acting as the chief defender of a broken, self-perpetuating system. One that survives by pitching itself as the glossy solution to the very crises that it creates. The former chancellor is significantly responsible for the scale of the UK’s cost of living disaster. In particular, he failed to challenge the Bank of England’s decision last year to keep interest rates low and undertake QE while insisting that inflation was “transitory”. The strength of Mr Sunak’s candidacy among MPs so far is testament to a failure of imagination on the centre of the party – not just on economic policy, but on leadership itself.

    If the party’s centrists want to go “back to the future” of the Blairite era, the Right is hopelessly trying to revive its own legacy. Liz Truss’s campaign has many of the hallmarks of Thatcherism – she stands for low tax, a smaller state, and tackling Civil Service orthodoxy. But she appears to have done little of the hard thinking necessary to update these arguments for the present day. She has made no attempt, for example, to make a new cultural case for personal responsibility to the Red Wall. This is baffling given that in such seats, pride in self-reliance runs as deep as the moral dismay at the self-victimising dogmas of the liberal Left.

    It is true that Kemi Badenoch represents a new, insurgent strain of conservatism. Although her philosophy has Thatcherite elements – with a commitment to a small state – it is better adapted to the modern world. Interestingly, Badenochism fixates on a fresh enemy, which isn’t socialism but paternalism. She is the only candidate who has identified a link between wokery and statism, stating that “it is no surprise the fiercest proclaimers of ‘social justice’ usually believe in the power of government over the people”.

    The problem is that Badenoch’s arguments aren’t yet fully formed, which could partly explain why she didn’t enjoy a Cleggmania moment in the televised debates. In essence, the former equalities minister has not quite managed to articulate why the culture war is important. One reason it is worth fighting is that the establishment has appropriated woke morality to preserve itself, disguising its conformity and stasis with an aura of diversity and change. There can be no revolution against managerial mediocrity as long as it remains the orthodoxy.

    A vivid and simple account of exactly why the system is broken and how to fix it is crucial for the Tory Right. A Thatcherite commitment to rolling back the state will not go down particularly well with voters who sense that austerity has ultimately come about due to the establishment’s mistakes, unless there is a lucid and radical plan for change.

    There is also the small matter of the fact that the broken system that the Right rages against is itself the unintended Frankenstein monster of Thatcherism – with its worship of hyper-globalisation over national sovereignty, efficiency over security, and managerialism over problem solving. One of the reasons the Conservative Right comes across as so immature and inchoate is that it has never faced up to this paradox. It has never forensically interrogated what was good about Thatcherism, and what elements were corrupted – or should be altered or even dispensed with.

    There is potential for a new generation of Toryism that stands not just for a small state and free markets but for security and the nation state. Perhaps it is even time for a new school of conservative thought that balances a healthy epistemic scepticism with optimism about human potential.

    One wonders, however, whether only a general election defeat can stimulate such soul-searching. As far as things go, that is exactly where the party is heading.

    What will happen after the next election? Supposing nothing happens between now and then to hand the Tories an unlikely victory, what will Labour do in office, assuming it wins a majority? Will it do everything that might be expected of the modern Left: relax immigration controls, granting an amnesty to illegals; increase taxes greatly; apply extreme eco-policies; seek a new ‘arrangement’ with the EU; seize private property? Or will it be ‘steady as she goes’, knowing that if many 2019 Tory-voting ex-Labour supporters vote for it, they will not countenance such policies, especially those that diminish the idea of Britishness or Englishness?

    The other possibility is a hung parliament in which no party can form a working coalition. With a power vacuum like that, something very nasty could happen in a country which is increasingly fragmented racially, culturally and politically.

I can get onto all my other usual websites e.g. Speccy, Guido, babylon bee. I remember reading that TCW has been blocked in the past by EE. Does what’s happening to me sound like I’m being blocked by EE? Any ideas, anyone?

    3. Yes EE among others have blocked TCW.
      I switch to THREE (my Internet hub) when I want to read it, as I use EE for my cell phone.

  124. I don’t know if any of you have seen this facility before. I’ve only just done so because it was featured in tonight’s East Midlands Today with film of the Ladybower Reservoir, completed only in 1943, dried up and empty in 1949 (it’s happened since).

    1. I know that area and used to go up there for picnics back in the day. It was quite low in 75-77 . Scenery is lovely.
