Welcome to our new home.

Now that Disqus is closing down it’s free ‘community’ channels, we needed a website in order to continue using Disqus’ commenting facility.
So, here it is.

ABOUT US

An unofficial place to discuss the Telegraph letters, founded when the DT turned off the Disqus comments feature. Although this has now been replaced by Livefyre, we don’t think it is as good, and have built up a friendly community of our own. So we’re keeping this site going, despite everything.

Intelligent, polite, good-humoured debate is welcome, whether on or off topic. Differing opinions are encouraged, but rudeness or personal attacks on other posters will not be tolerated. Posts which – in the opinion of the moderators – make this a less than cordial environment, are likely to be removed, without prior warning. Persistent offenders will be blacklisted. The moderator’s decision is final.

  1. Hallo friends! Where are we? This is still Disqus?

Am I still a Mod? It said I’ve been invited, then removed!

Glad we still have a home! Is this courtesy of Mahahma? Thankyou!

    1. Morning Jules. This is the proposed replacement for “Old NoTTL”. I haven’t broadcast the fact yet, since I wanted to iron out any wrinkles first. It uses the Basic version of Disqus – not to be confused with the Community Channels version, which is being withdrawn on 31 August. It has to be hosted externally, so I’ve set up a simple web blog site using WordPress. It’s a bit basic at the moment, but essentially does what is needed; i.e. acts as a simple ‘front door’ and index to our Disqus comments. Since “New NoTTL” is an entirely separate Disqus site to the old one, I have had to add the existing Mods to the new one. I haven’t removed anyone, and you are still listed as a Mod on both sites. Clearly, this version of Disqus has the same glitches as the old one. Sigh…

Mahatma kindly offered a solution, but I preferred to keep the site independent, and my ‘Plan B’ had been lurking on the shelf since around November last year. I’ll run both sites in parallel for another day or two, then, all being well, will direct everyone to https://nttl.blog, our new home.

      1. What a star you are! I’m so glad we still have a home for this little community.

It looks much the same as the old, familiar site so we may not even notice the change! Does this one allow the photos and videos etc, that lots of people post?

        1. Yes, it does. And the moderation tools are supposed to be a little better. We shall see.

        1. Thanks, Pud. It could stand a little tweaking, but I’m pleased with the result.

          1. Hi Geoff, I will at sometime soon do a Blog promotion page so that we Blog owners can network & cross-promote each others channels because unlike Disqus channels there is no “Blogs using Disqus list” so finding a Disqus using Blog among the millions of blogs using WP, Blogger, Tumblr , Wix etc is by word of mouth / personal recommendation & we have personally gone from posting as a community on the DT when it still used Disqus to posting on NTTL & other Disqus channels to now finding ourselves basically on our own on the vast blogosphere.
I have added you as a Mod on my Blog in recognition of the great contribution you have made in keeping together the NTTL community after we were first exiled from the DT & now to our 2nd exile from the channel network. Please consider it to be an OBE – Order of the Bloggers Empire !

          2. Ah – this explains why I’m seeing TheCoconutWhisperer in the Moderation Page. Many thanks… I think… :-))

          3. Good evening, Hat, and thank you for your kind comments on your Coconut Whisperer site but it will probably be obvious to you where our loyalties lie. I could not do otherwise and thank you so very much for your efforts on our behalf in our hour of need.

          4. No problem NTN, all Nottlers are welcome & added as Trusted Users on The Coconut Whisperer. Geoff , Rik & Issyagain are Mods on TCW which is a channel that covers a multitude of subjects. My Blogs coverage & rules page is under preparation.

      2. Are you going to post both links each day, i.e. current new page and new nottl blog page? And put the link in the top description, so as to catch any stragglers (holidays, existing links to the current site, etc).

        1. Hi. I’m not planning to run both sites in parallel for more than a day or so. I’ll stop posting new daily pages on the old site, but leave a very clear message there, saying we have moved, with a link to the new site.

      3. Good to know, Geoff and it sounds like a sensible, logistical plan.

You have my support – along, I’m sure with 99.99999% of our NoTTLing friends (or fiends, even).

  2. Does this site accept old, fat, ugly, bald, smelly, thick, retarded, gormless, ex-pat, plastic Swedes?

I would not want to belong to any club that would have me as a member!

    Who said that? Allegedly. 🐻

  3. Wonderful work, Geoff. So very many thanks. If ever you are in Colchester do come round and I shall bake you a fruit crumble and give you a jar of my home-made marmalade. (The marmalade is by Royal Appointmentment to their Majesties King Grizzly and Queen Annie Allan, along with several other NoTTLers.)

      1. A delightful encounter, Mahatma, unlike another person who has become my first “Whack a Mole” victim on this new site.

  4. Congratulations Geoff, you’ve done a great job for we Nottlers. Thank you so much, I don’t know quite what I’d be doing if I didn’t Nottle! (Housework – Pah!)

  5. Wonderful news!! So happy not to lose all my fellow Nottlers, and thanks for all the hard work that has been done to get organised! And of course, many thanks to the Moderators for keeping us all in line!

    1. Ogga, it simply wouldn’t be the same without you. All flavours are needed, all are stitches in the tapestry.

  6. Well done, Geoff, it’s really appreciated. I think many of us thought we’d be looking at The Wasteland after September 1st. Instead we can all now enjoy watching and commenting on the antics of the Remaniacs as they struggle through a moribund two months to Hallowe’en. Yea, what is there not to like about that vision.

  7. Thank you Geoff. Good to know Nottlers have a new home. I’ve not been visiting much lately so I’m glad I happened to look in today and saw this link.
